The brand that combines the American spirit and Swiss precision is known for its watches that have been used by the army corps. After reviewing the Khaki Field Mechanical, a faithful reissue of the 1969 "Hack" produced by Hamilton and used by the US army, we present the reinterpretation of a vintage style model used by the Royal Air Force British in the 1970s: we call W10.
produced between 1973 and 1976, this popular model used primarily by British army pilots, who inspired the new Pioneer Khaki Pilot Collection, has been mechanically updated to adapt to the new standards. Therefore, this reissue is equipped with an H-50 caliber, a mechanical movement with manual winding offering an impressive 80 hour power reserve. Who says the Swatch Group brand says ETA movement. In fact, this movement is a modified version of the ETA 2801-2 caliber that oscillates at 28,800 vibrations per hour, is equipped with 17 jewels and then offers 50 hours of energy reserve. This modification thus allows Caliber H-50 to offer a greater reserve of energy.
This new flagship model of the collection dedicated to aviation sports a barrel box with all the dimensions of the original model. So he measures 36 mm wide 41.3 mm long horn to horn for a total thickness of 10 mm (counting the double curved mineral glass whose height is around 3 mm). Therefore, it is a small watch with a fine construction that will delight lovers of antique watches. The glass is anti-reflective, which makes sense for a watch with aviator roots, while the hour markers are covered with Super-Luminova Old Radium (beige during the day, light green at night) that strengthens its retro look.
With a large opening sphere (Due to the absence of a bezel), this watch offers an unstoppable view of the Matte black background with grainy texture. This dial is almost identical to the original: there is a continuous railroad during the minutes with points backed by large Arabic numerals that mark the hours and then adhere to the cardinal points. Many discrete evolutions are emerging to add charm to this watch: the texture of the background, the beige color of the luminescent marks, a more rounded triangular marker at noon, the old "Hamilton" logo occupies more space and makes the After "T ", the" wide arrow "was replaced by the word" Mechanic "in capital letters.
Everything is offered in two bracelets (of your choice): one NATO cowhide, of very fine brown color with aged finish, or a Nylon of gray nylon. Both are 18 mm wide and have a straight cut, as well as a buckle Modern engraving with the current brand logo. Hamilton renews the winning recipe for Khaki Field Mechanical we talked about last year. She also affirms her difference by staying more than true to its historical models offering watches with proportions that go against current trends, which gives them all their charm. We can imagine that success will be there, even if this time, the price also changes given the choice of the new caliber: € 745 in fabric and € 795 in leather. In spite of everything, the quality / price ratio is still excellent.
