Some brands go much further than others. The essence of his creative process transcends watchmaking, sometimes reflecting a universe created from scratch by its designer. This is the case of the swiss brand Dietrich. After the Organic Time series launched in 2014 and inspired by organic materials, Time Companion was presented at Baselworld 2017, which transposes this concept to steel with integrated bracelet, the ultra creative brand presented this week the Dietrich Device No. 1 (DD-1), an equally daring watch that is worth a detour.
Let’s go back to basics and talk a little about Dietrich. This Swiss brand was founded in 2012 by a French native of Besançon. Cradled in the cradle of French watchmaking, Emmanuel Dietrich He wanted, through his watchmaking creations, to materialize his unusual world. A dream universe composed of balance, feelings, forms, sensations and pleasure. Much more than watches, this brand offers objects devoid of temporality, which speak the same language as our bodies, both delicate and powerful, creating a unique symbiosis between form and function. All your watches are (now) sealed “Made in Switzerland”.
The starting point for the DD-1 It was a series of questions for the Dietrich team: “What if? Where is the limit? How far can the design take us if we let ourselves go and embark on an adventure journey through form and space? How will the time count in the future? ” It was by letting go that Dietrich made a breakthrough in terms of watch design. Always thinking of 3D dimensions, unlike traditional brands that simply decorate a flat dial, which the Swiss brand has use all the space under the glass to create an ecosystem that combines with the clock engine.
The result: a clock that measures 46 mm wide, without horns to reduce the space occupied in the wrist, a hexagonal sapphire crystal cut to size, a dial built in several layers and covered with Super-Luminova to read the time in the dark, a nylon strap developed specifically for the brand to sneak discreetly under the case, as well as an automatic movement signed ETA, the famous ETA 2824-2 caliber. Without compromise, the Dietrich DD-1 takes you at all costs on a trip you hadn’t even dared to think about. Its price : 1850CHF (around € 1690 HT).
