We recently introduced you to the reissue of Q Timex, an iconic model of the American brand inspired by divers from the 70s. Timex talks about it again with a watch with an assertive design: the Timex Giorgio Galli S1 Automatic.
Timex is one of the brands that has marked the history of modern watchmaking. A true pillar of the watchmaking scene, the American firm no longer needs to be presented. On the occasion of this new launch, Timex has chosen to commemorate its work with its artistic director, a Milanese called Giorgio Galli, who knew how to make the brand shine among the competition. Your instructions for this model? Make the most of the “Timex” from Timex ever designed.
As you can see, the Italian designer had a carte blanche to develop this watch. The only requirements of the brand were the same as for all other watches in the Timex catalog: accessibility, quality and assertive design. Therefore, the S1 is provided with a stainless steel case of 41 mm in diameter Very worked. the hollowed horns extend along the circularly grooved housing. The watch is completely brushed, which strengthens its industrial appearance, only the edges are polished. The crown, traditionally located at 3 o’clock, takes up the design of the box with a circular grooving interspersed with vertical prints. On the back, we find the same groove, characteristic of the clock. The bottom of the case reveals the heart of the watch through a mineral crystal.
To contrast with the very worked side of the box, Galli has chosen a dial with minimalist design. Therefore, we find a silver sphere of sunbeams with indexes applied on sticks. The only inscriptions printed on the dial are “Timex” at 12 o’clock and a discreet mention to the Milanese designer at 6 o’clock: “Giorgio Galli S1 Automatic”. However, a touch of eccentricity is present in this dial, the presence of a watch stone pink to denote the monotony of the rest of the clock. The set is crowned by a K1 mineral curved glass, more scratch resistant and anti-reflective treatment.
On the side of the movement, we find the Miyota 9039, the Japanese equivalent of the famous ETA 2824-2. It is a widespread caliber in this price range and you don’t have much to envy your Swiss competitor. Alternating at 28,800 A / h, it deviates daily in -10 / + 30 seconds with a 42-hour power reserve. The transparent box bottom reveals the oscillating weight specially recorded for Timex. For this atypical model, the American manufacturer has chosen an atypical bracelet. In fact, the latter takes up the lines of the case with hollow edges that extend the engraving of the horns. For the rest, it is a bracelet in synthetic rubber Flexible mounted on quick pumps for easy change. Keep in mind that Timex has equipped your bracelet with a rivet that allows you to hold the excess bracelet.
With this new version, Timex is still talking about it by offering a model with a unique design for a competitive price. In fact, this model of Giorgio Galli does not lack personality and does not look like any other watch. At a time when the harvest is on the rise, Timex is doing the currency bet, an assumed choice that makes S1 an immediately identifiable model. We regret the choice of mineral glass and low 5ATM water resistance, but for € 450, considering the rest, you should not ask too much.
