For those of you who love to follow the journey of young French watchmakers, you will immediately recognize the stage of Basque from the first image. If you have been following us for some time, you may have read our interview with the founder of the brand, during his first Kickstarter campaign in 2016. Today, we present the third campaign of this french brand That has come a long way, 3 days before the end.
Basque or French watches 24 hours
Like MeisterSinger, the idea behind Vasco was to offer a different approach to time. A “slower” approach. Thus was born the concept of “Slow Time” while being inspired by The naval and submarine past of Bordeaux, where is Benjamin Chamfeuil, the founder of the brand. Therefore, Basque watches show the time in 24 hours (and not 12) because 20,000 leagues under the sea, neither the sun, the moon or even the stars penetrate, which makes the notion of day and night essential, especially for underwater professionals to remain sane. After starting with collections animated by quartz movements, the brand is originally from Bordeaux and is very interested in French knowledge, hence the appreciable mention “Made in France” At the back of the boxes, the automatic step finally passes. To discover behind the scenes of the brand, we invite you to join the Basque Club on Facebook.
These 4 automatic watches share the same case. Made of316L stainless steel, this measures 40 mm wide 48 mm long horn to horn 12.3 mm thick. To this is added a slightly curved sapphire crystal which provides an additional thickness of 1.5 mm in the center of the glass. In terms of finishes, there is a brushing throughout the center, a polishing on the bezel and the bottom (except for the “Invicible” model that is completely sanded). All have a transparent and screwed back and offer a water resistance of 50 meters (5ATM). Remember that this is a marine watch, not a diving watch.
# 1. Vasco Nocturne
This first model called “Nocturne” is very classic and very representative of the spirit of the brand. It distinguishes very well between day (6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.) and night (6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.), dividing the bottom of the dial in black and the top in white. To avoid confusion, the designer placed a crescent moon at 24:00 (6 hours on a traditional clock). The hands of the stick are planted with photoluminescent material and the second hand is dressed in red. The set is animated by a Raketa 2624 automatic movementA very beautiful, very rare choice, made by a historic Russian manufacture founded in 1721. It is a caliber known for its robustness and extremely reliable with an oscillating weight mounted on ball bearings.
# 2. Basque Sauvage
The second model, called “Sauvage”, has an excellent sphere with dome counters Very inspired by the minimalism of the Bauhaus current. Hosted by a Miyota 8219 automatic movement, this Basque watch is a regulator With a little twist: time is shown there 24 hours, of course. The hand placed on the central axis indicates the minutes, while the small 4-5 hour counter indicates the seconds. It is a model that is completely out of the ordinary, a true test of creativity by the French brand.
# 3. Basque Nautique
Here is our favorite model: the “Nautical”. With its dial full of information that reminds us of a Breitling Navitimer, this watch offers a very interesting feature: a compass. When pointing the hour hand toward the sun, the white inner bezel indicates the cardinal points (north, south, east-west). Note that these values are only valid for the northern hemisphere. Then, the hours are marked in the center with hour markers applied for 24 hours and then the minutes in a white circle located around the hours. Like the first model presented, this watch works with Raketa caliber 2624, which makes it even more interesting. Oscillating at 18,800A / h (2.5Hz), this movement with 24 jewels offers 40 hours power reserve and deviates daily from -10 / + 20 seconds.
# 4. Invincible Basque
Finally, the “Invincible” model acquires the same functions as the “Wild” model but with a more traditional style. Also animated by the Miyota 8219 automatic movement, this watch is completely sanded, eliminating any reflection and providing a side “tool clock”, remarkably mounted on a NATO National Navy with its unique loop The 24-hour counter is black with a vinyl texture, while the minute digits are applied with an equally black finish. In short, another successful model. The Kickstarter campaign ends very soon, so you can still enjoy more 30% discount on pre-order. To do this, click on the button below.
